Girls play hockey day was sponsored by the Tampa Bay Lightning. 105 girl scouts from the Tampa area came out to try hockey! Some of them had never even ice skated before. The Lightning recently purchased 50 sets of hockey equipment to outfit kids for events like this. Dave Andreychuck and Brian Bradley – former NHL players – came out to help the girls on and off the ice, even with things as simple as tying their skates.

“It’s neat that these kids are excited about our team. They want to see it, they want to play hockey. Some of these kids have never even held a hockey stick in their hands and some have never even been here in the building before. So it’s a cool experience for them.”
- Dave Andreychuk, Vice President of Fans and Business Development and former Lightning captain
